Gravity, Parametric Resonance and Chaotic Inflation

چکیده
For nearly a decade it has been known that coherent processes at the end of inflation can drive explosive particle production [1] via parametric resonance, leading to an era of preheating in the post-inflationary universe. Earlier assumptions about the transfer of energy from the inflaton to “regular” matter have been overturned, and the phenomenology of the post-inflationary universe is thus much richer than previously suspected. However, the corollary of such interesting behavior is understanding preheating has been a long and arduous task [2–14,17,15,16,18–27]. In particular, the problem is intrinsically nonlinear and takes place far from thermal equilibrium. Moreover, employing simplifying assumptions that are often useful in other circumstances can suppress crucial features of the preheating era, and when they are discarded the resulting predictions can change dramatically. The simplest model to exhibit parametric resonance is chaotic inflation driven by the quartic potential,

The Preheating - Gravitational Wave Correspondence: I
The gravitational wave equations form a parametric resonance system during oscillatory reheating after inflation, when cast in terms of the electric and magnetic parts of the Weyl tensor. This is in direct analogy with preheating. For chaotic inflation with a quadratic potential, this analogy is exact. The resulting amplification of the gravitational wave spectrum begins in the broad resonance ...
متن کاملChaotic Reheating
We discuss the structure of parametric resonance which occurs in the process of reheating after inflation with two interacting scalar fields. It is found that, for the case of a not too large coupling constant, a quasi-homogeneous part of the second, initially subdominant scalar field may not be neglected due to its stochastic growth during inflation. This fact has strong consequences for the r...
متن کاملConstraints on Inflation in Einstein-Brans-Dicke Frame
The density perturbation during inflation seeds the large scale structure. We consider both new inflation-type and chaotic inflation-type potentials in the framework of EinsteinBrans-Dicke gravity. The density perturbation gives strong constraints on the parameters in these potentials. For both potentials, the constraints are not much different from those obtained in the original inflationary m...
متن کاملChaotic inflation with running nonminimal coupling
We have found a successful model of chaotic inflation with an inflaton coupled nonminimally with gravity. The nonminimal coupling constant ξ runs with the evolution of the inflaton. The running nature of the coupling leads naturally to the situations where the coupling becomes small enough to have sufficient period of the inflation to resolve the cosmological puzzles.
متن کاملSpin-Torsion in Chaotic Inflation
The role of spin-torsion coupling to gravity is analyzed in the context of a model of chaotic inflation. The system of equations constructed from the Einstein-Cartan and inflaton field equations are studied and it is shown that spin-torsion interactions are effective only at the very first e-folds of inflation, becoming quickly negligible and, therefore, not affecting the standard inflationary ...
